Univox presents...

Serenity, Hope, Light

2016-12-09

Serenity, Hope, Light featured works for Christmas, Hanukkah and the winter season. The choir performed Bach’s masterpiece Lobet den Herrn alle Heiden along with serene and lush settings by renowned contemporary composers Ola Gjeilo, Eric Whitacre, and Randall Stroope. The spirit of Hanukkah is captured in Yiddish settings by Joshua Jacobson and Stanley Hoffman. Works of the African-diaspora include Sydney Guillaume’s Dominus Vobiscum, a work that beautifully combines the polyrhythms and energy of Afro-Haitian music with the tradition of the sacred Latin motet; the jazz-gospel setting Sistah Mary by Rosephanye Powell; and the bluesy spiritual Is a Light Shining in the Heavens by Robert L Morris. Univox is joined by special guests Rachel Pomedli (cello) and Susanne Maziarz (piano).
